Any issues with transfering existing property owned in a personal name to a land trust?
What would happen to an existing Deed of Trust for the same property?

There are over 3,300 county clerks offices in the USA…they all do things a little different…my experience has been that 99% of them WILL let you keep your homestead exemption after placing the property into a trust. But, to be safe, ask them first. Other than that, you do not need anyone’s “approval” to put your property into trust. Hope this helps you!
